Todayβs focus is arpeggiation, following a rotation from bar chords to arpeggiation, then rhythm and tempo, and finally recovery. The work continues with Phrase 2 and Phrase 4 from your recent practice. Keep your touch light and precise, since quality outweighs quantity. Tomorrowβs rotation could move to rhythm and tempo on the same two phrases or any pair that seems most useful. The total time is roughly 30 minutes.
Warm-up (10 minutes)
- 2 min: Light finger stretches + open-hand shakes
- 3 min: C major scale (or C major pentatonic) in 2 octaves, alternate
picking, slow to moderate (use a metronome around 60β70 bpm if you
like)
- 5 min: Slow, deliberate arpeggios of the core chords from these
phrases only:
Cβ7 β Fβ7 β G9 β Bβ7 β Dββ13
Play each arpeggio ascending and descending once, then move to the next. Focus on clean tone and even notes. No speed goal.
Main exercises (~15 minutes)
Exercise 1 β Phrase 2 arpeggio outline (7β8
min)
Bars:
- Bar 3: Fβ7 | G9
- Bar 4: Cβ7 | Eβ7 | Dm11 | G9sus4 | G9
- Bar 5: Cβ7 | C7
Arpeggiate each chord in time (quarter-note or eighth-note feel).
Play the arpeggio once per chord, then rest or hold the last note.
- 3 slow passes (metronome optional, ~60β70 bpm)
- 2 slightly faster but still controlled passes
Keep it clean; stop and reset if notes get muddy.
Exercise 2 β Phrase 4 arpeggio outline (7β8
min)
Bars:
- Bar 6: Fβ7 | Bβ7 | Bβ9
- Bar 7: Cβ7 | Cβ―ΓΈ | Fβ7 | AβΓΈ
- Bar 8: Dββ13 | C6
Same approach: arpeggiate each chord once, stay in time, prioritize
clarity over speed.
- 3 slow passes
- 2 moderate controlled passes
If a chord feels awkward (especially the diminished/half-diminished ones), simplify to the three or four strongest notes for today.
Cooldown (3β5 minutes)
- Slow, relaxed chord holds of Cβ7 β Fβ7 β C6 (or just C major
shapes). Breathe, release tension in the fretting hand and
shoulders.
- Gentle wrist and finger stretches.
- Optional: play the two phrases once more very slowly with no metronome, just listening to the sound of the chords.
