I stumbled upon Pritesh Walia completely by chance. He is a skilled jazz guitarist with a warm, melodic tone.
His story is an interesting one. Growing up in an Indian family, he was far removed from jazz. His parents, an engineer and a professor, played only Indian film music and classical music at home. Like many teenagers of our time, he was unsure of which direction to take. In his culture, most parents expect their children to study medicine, engineering, or computer science. However, his parents were supportive of his passion and took him to the US to visit colleges.
Walia was so impressed with Musicians Institute in Los Angeles that he enrolled there, followed by Berklee College of Music in Boston. The rest is history.
Some of Waliaβs original compositions remind me of Julian Lage and Kenny Burrell. I have become a fan of his playing. As for his guitar teaching, he is articulate, and you can tell that he has thoroughly earned the knowledge he passes on.
