I cannot get enough of these tunes recently: Blues in the Night (Dinah Washington), See See Rider (Ernestine Anderson), TβAinβt Nobodyβs Biz-Ness (Dinah Washington), and Youβd Be So Nice to Come Home to (Helen Merrill). Theyβve been on repeat for more than a month.
Two things common to these songs are that the performer brings an unflashy mastery in singing and an attitude that is simultaneously strong and subtle; you notice the former one day and the latter another.
